Axert (Generic name: Almotriptan Malate, sold from the UK also called Almogran manufactured by Almirall.) is an antimigraine prescription medication used for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults and in adolescents who are at least 12 years old. Almotriptan Malate belongs to a class of drugs known as 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor agonists, also called triptan. It is used to reduce the symptoms of migraines including headache, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Axert will only treat headache that has already begun. It will not prevent headaches or reduce the number of migraine attacks. Take Axert exactly as it was prescribed for you.
The most common Axert side effects are dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, nausea, tingling sensation, or vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, fainting, hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, mental changes, vision changes, and a sign of serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT take Axert oral if you are allergic to Almotriptan or any of the ingredients in Axert medication. Before taking Axert, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as angina (chest pain), blood circulation disorder, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, migraine headaches, and seizures.
