CeeNU Information

CeeNU (Lomustine) is used to treat brain cancer. It may also be used to treat another type of cancer called Hodgkin's Disease. CeeNU belongs to a group of medicines called cytotoxic medicines also known as chemotherapy medicines. CeeNU works by killing cancer cells. It interferes with the growth of cancer cells, which are eventually destroyed. Since the growth of normal body cells may also be affected by lomustine, other effects may occur. CeeNU is often used in combination with other medicines to treat your cancer. CeeNU may be prescribed by your doctor for another reason. You should ask your doctor if you have any questions about why CeeNU has been prescribed for you.

CeeNU Side Effects

The most common side effects of CeeNU may include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, sore mouth; dry cough; swelling of feet or lower legs; confusion; unusual hair loss or hair thinning; dizziness; light-headedness; feeling tired or drowsy. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Bleeding or bruising more easily, bleeding gums or nose bleeds, rash of small reddish-purple spots on your skin, blood in your stool or urine;
• Infections, fever, severe chills, sore throat, or mouth ulcers;
• Liver disease with symptoms such as weakness, tiredness, confusion, yellowing of the eyes and skin, loss of appetite, weight loss and stomach pain;
• Lack of coordination or unsteady when walking, difficulty speaking;
• Passing little or no urine, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headache and breathlessness;
• Shortness of breath or change in breathing, cough, unusual tiredness;
• Tiredness, headaches, short of breath when exercising, dizziness, looking pale, fast heart rate.

CeeNU Precautions

Do not use CeeNU if you are allergic to Lomustine or to any other ingredients in this medication or if you are allergic to any foods, preservatives or dyes; if you have had blood disorder with a reduced number of red or white blood cells; liver or kidney problems; lung disease (including asthma); heart problems (including a heart attack); any other cancer; lowered immunity due to treatment with medicines such as corticosteroids, cyclosporin or other medicines used to treat cancer. Do not take CeeNU if you are pregnant or are breast feeding or are planning to become pregnant as CeeNU may cause birth defects if either the male or female is using it at the time of conception. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have an infection or high temperature; have had a surgery recently. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between CeeNU and other medications. As with other anticancer medicines, CeeNU may cause nausea, disorientation or tiredness in some people. Make sure you know how you react to CeeNU before you drive a car, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are disorientated or tired. Do not drink alcohol as disorientation or tiredness may be worse. Avoid contact sports or other situations where bruising or injury could occur.
