Estrogel Information

Estrogel (Estradiol) is a prescription gel used to reduce the symptoms of menopause such as severe hot flashes and other vaginal symptoms such as dryness, burning and irritation. Estradiol belongs to the class of medications known as estrogen replacement therapy. This medication is absorbed through the skin and enters into the bloodstream reducing those symptoms of menopause. Estrogel is applied to the skin; it dries in 2 to 5 minutes. The symptoms of menopause occur when the body makes less estrogen during menopause. Apply Estrogel as thinly as possible from your wrist to your shoulder. Do not massage or rub it in. Relief of menopausal symptoms can begin as early as 2 weeks after starting treatment.

Estrogel Side effects

The common side effects of Estrogel may include bloating, breast tenderness, headache, nausea or vomiting and weight changes.

Inform your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:

• Breast lumps;
• Dark urine;
• Increased or new vaginal irritation, itching, odor or discharge;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Persistent nausea or vomiting;
• Swelling hands or feet;
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain;
• Yellowing eyes or skin

Estrogel Gel Precaution

To make sure Evorel is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had breast cancer or other cancers that can be made worse by estrogens, or if you have ever had deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, blood clotting issues, liver disease. Tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking in order to reduce the risk of interactions. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with Estrogel and possibly cause dangerous side effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit products while using Estrogel. Use this medication as directed. Do not use in larger or smaller amounts than prescribed. If you experience any serious side effects, signs of a blood clot, signs of stroke, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
