Glyset Information

Glyset (Miglitol) is used to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Untreated type 2 diabetes mellitus may cause serious complications such as loss of sexual function, nerve problems, blindness, and loss of limbs. Controlling diabetes can reduce your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors like Miglitol slow down the breakdown and absorption of carbohydrates from your foods. This effect helps reduce the rise of blood sugar after a meal. Glyset medication should be used with a healthy diet and regular exercise to improve blood sugar control.

Glyset Side Effects

The most common side effects of Glyset may include diarrhea, gas, abdominal pain, and mild rash. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Bloody stools;
• Rectal bleeding;
• Severe diarrhea;
• Signs of high blood sugar such as increased thirst or urination;
• Signs of low blood sugar such as dizziness, sweating, shaking, fast heartbeat, blurred vision
