Humulin (Generic name: Insulin) 70/30 is a mixture of 70% intermediate-acting insulin (isophane) and 30% short-acting insulin (regular, [rDNA origin]). It works by lowering levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood. Humulin starts to work as quickly as regular insulin but lasts up to 24 hours following injection. In some people with diabetes, insulin may be used alone or with other diabetes drugs (e.g., sulfonylureas like glyburide). Humulin is only part of a complete program of diabetes treatment that may also include diet, exercise, weight control, dental care, and regular blood sugar tests. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Use Humulin 70 30 vials exactly as it was prescribed for you.
