Incruse Ellipta (umeclidinium bromide) is an anticholinergic used to prevent airway obstruction and reduce flare-ups in adults with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including chronic bronchitis or emphysema. Incruse Ellipta works by blocking the action of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors (M1 to M5) in the bronchial airways (M3) by preventing increase in intracellular calcium concentration, leading to the relaxation of airway smooth muscle, improvement in lung function, and a decrease of mucus secretion.
Incruse Ellipta Precautions:
Before using Incruse Ellipta, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, a heart disease, an enlarged prostate, or urination problems. You should not use Incruse Ellipta if you are allergic to umeclidinium, or if you have an allergy to milk proteins. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Take this medication as directed. Incruse Ellipta is not a rescue medication. Use the correct medication if you are having a bronchospasm attack. Do not stop the use of Incruse Ellipta unless you are instructed to by your doctor, as symptoms can lessen but you may still need the medication.
Common side effects of Incruse Ellipta include cold symptoms, fast or irregular heartbeats, bruising, darkened skin, mouth pain or tooth pain, stomach pain, or an altered sense of taste. Contact your doctor right away if you experience wheezing, choking, or other breathing problems after using this medication, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, eye pain or redness, or other vision changes, painful or difficult urination, or urinating more often. If you experience any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
