Innohep Information

Innohep (Tinzaparin Sodium) is used to prevent clotting of blood and to allow normal blood flow through the arteries and veins. The drug is also used to treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in adults. DVT are harmful blood clots that have formed in a deep vein in a leg. This condition may cause leg swelling or pain. Innohep is also used to treat clots that may travel in the bloodstream and cause a blockage (thromboembolism) and pulmonary embolism (PE). PE occurs when a clot has traveled to the lung and caused a blockage. This condition results in breathing difficulties and chest pain. Innohep also treats blood clots that have developed from cancer and prevents further clots from forming. Anticoagulants and low molecular weight heparin like Tinzaparin Sodium work by reducing the clotting ability of the blood to prevent harmful blood clots from forming in the blood vessels. Tinzaparin is often administered for several days after surgery while you are unable to walk. It is during this time that blood clots are most likely to form.
