Lysodren Information
Lysodren (Mitotane) is in a class of medications called antineoplastic agents. This medication is used to treat cancer of the adrenal glands. This drug works by reducing the growth of or killing adrenal gland cells. It also reduces the amount of hormones made by the adrenal gland. It may also alter the breakdown of these hormones. Lysodren is to be taken orally with or without food usually 3 or 4 times a day.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist of any allergies you have or if you have a medical history of liver disease before taking this medication. Also be sure to inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breast-feeding and any other significant facts about your health. These factors may affect how you take this medication. This drug can make you dizzy or drowsy, drinking alcohol or smoking marijuana while taking this drug may make you more dizzy or drowsy so don’t drive or do anything that needs alertness. To reduce the risk of dizziness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. Inform your doctor right away if you experience any of these side effects: depression, visual changes, weight loss, fainting, bloody urine, loss of appetite, diarrhea, skin rash or lethargy.
