Undetected and Untreated Blood Clots Can Be Life Threatening

Monday, February 28th, 2011

Blood clotting is a natural process which the body uses to curtail flow of blood in trauma. However, there are other situations in which blood flow stagnate and lead to formation of blood clots which can be life threatening. Similarly, blood clots can also result from a laceration to a blood vessel in an artery or a vein. Both conditions can slow down or block the blood circulation, contributing to loss of oxygen to the cells involved in the blockage. Common symptoms include swelling, redness in the affected area and pain. The affected area such as a limb may be warm to the touch as well.

There are two main types of blood clot situations as venous thrombi and arterial thrombus. These two types have their own symptoms and causes. (more…)

Long-Acting Insulin Best at Controlling Blood Sugar

Friday, February 25th, 2011

As type 2 diabetes progresses, oral diabetes medication doses typically need to be adjusted upwards over time, and a good many type 2 diabetics can expect to end up insulin dependent. There does not appear to be any clear consensus on how best to introduce insulin injections in addition to oral diabetes medications – three times a day with meals, twice daily injections, or a single daily long-acting insulin injection.

Professor Rury Holman, director of the Diabetes Trial Unit at Oxford University, was the principal investigator of a large scale study conducted to determine how best to introduce insulin to control blood sugar levels as type 2 diabetes progresses. “Type 2 diabetes is a progressive condition with the majority of patients eventually requiring insulin therapy,” Holman explains. Kudzu Used as Diabetes Medication in Chinese Medicine

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Kudzu is a herb used in Chinese medicine to treat diabetes mellitus, alcoholism, colds, fever, menopausal symptoms and neck or eye pain. It’s also referred to as kudsu, pueraria, or Japanese arrowroot. Both the flowers and the root have medicinal properties.

There is evidence that one of several isoflavones in kudzu, puerarin, improves insulin resistance. Kudzu appears to have additive effects when used with diabetes medications, assisting in lowering blood sugar levels. Puerarin’s ability to thin the blood and improve blood flow is also believed beneficial in diabetic retinopathy.

CIPA.com Offers Safe Purchase of Online Canadian Drugs

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

canadian drugsMany people avoid buying overseas drugs from Canada pharmacies online because they’re worried about the many scams out there. This is where the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) comes in.

CIPA.com is an independent organisation who verifies each Canada pharmacy online by checking a range of details and information. The first step is checking that each Canadian pharmacy is licensed, and they request proof of licensing. They also check all of the details of the pharmacy, including all contact details to ensure that they are legitimate. Another worry of the American and Canadian public is that online pharmacies in Canada do not keep payment and personal details secure; however legitimate licensed online pharmacies have encrypted payment systems and maximum security to ensure that your details are kept secure. This is another of the many details that the CIPA check before allowing the pharmacy to be verified by them.

Science has shown that many people who have heart disease have a severe vitamin D deficiency. The recommended daily allowance (RDA) of vitamin D has been 400 IUs, but now doctors say that it’s much safer to take anything up to 4000 IUs per day. Vitamin D insufficiency has been linked to all types of diabetes, as well as heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke. Patients who get a lot of sunlight are not required to take so much vitamin D because sunlight is a natural source of vitamin D. (more…)
