Generic Colchicine – First Choice of People Suffering From Gout Until a Cure Appears

Monday, May 30th, 2011

It is common to see patients suffering from gout struggling with swollen and stiff joints, but the worst condition is the pain associated with it, which is why generic Colchicine is very useful in effectively alleviating it. In Canada itself, around 3% of the adult population is said to be affected by drought, out of which men are four times more likely to get it than women.

Gout is very similar to arthritis and is caused by increased levels of uric acid in the body. The condition usually happens when all the uric acid is not removed by the kidneys, and it starts accumulating in the body. Starting with the big toe, it can affect the wrist, ankles, knees, and other joints. Once gout sets in, pain can persist for days or even weeks in spurts, after which patients will not experience pain for a long time.

“Diabesity” Epidemic Leads to Double Digit Growth in Sales of Diabetes Drugs

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Two converging epidemics are striking Americans across the socioeconomic spectrum. Diabetes and obesity are so closely connected that health care professionals have coined the term “diabesity” to describe the connection between the two. “I really believe that it is the obesity epidemic that has driven diabetes”, says Dr. Christopher Still, obesity expert from the Geisinger Center for Nutrition and Weight Management, “simply because of the increase in insulin resistance.”

Excess weight is linked to insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is a condition in which the hormone insulin becomes less effective at lowering blood sugar levels. The resulting high blood sugar increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body produces little or no insulin.  In type 2 diabetes, the body still produces insulin, but can’t use it effectively. Ninety to ninety-five percent of diabetics have type 2 diabetes, and about 95% of type 2 diabetics are overweight.

Leprosy Jumps from Armadillos to Humans

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Leprosy has joined a growing list of infectious diseases known to have jumped from animals to humans, including HIV, SARS and influenza. DNA testing has connected a strain of leprosy-causing bacteria in armadillos to cases in humans in the southern United States.

Few diseases arise more fear and loathing than the disfiguring and debilitating leprosy. Leprosy has been a scourge in many parts of the world since recorded history, including India, China and Egypt. There was no known treatment until the late 1930s, and sufferers were considered cursed or “unclean” and often banished to leper colonies. Such colonies still exist in many countries – India has more than 1000 of them. (more…)

Compelling New Evidence for Genetic Link to Depression

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Two separate studies lining the same chromosome to depression put us on the road to understanding the root cause of depression, and hopefully, developing more effective antidepressant medications.

In a compelling coincidence, two separate groups of researchers working independently have connected the same region of DNA to depression. The region contains almost 100 genes, and it’s believed multiple genes are linked to major depression.

Dating with Diabetes-Related Erectile Dysfunction

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

According to the National Institutes of Health, having diabetes more than doubles the risk of a man experiencing erectile dysfunction, or ED. Between 20 and 75% of men with diabetes experience ED, compared to about one in every five men without a chronic health condition. That’s because diabetes can cause nerve and artery damage that can make achieving an erection difficult.

ED is a much more common occurrence in the general population than most people realize. ED can be caused by a variety of physical and psychological factors, including stress, low self esteem, disease, surgery, injury, and tobacco, drug and alcohol use. There are over 200 medications that can cause or contribute to ED. Diabetes medications are not among them.

Almost all men will experience ED at some point in their life, especially as they get older. There are now a number of effective treatments for ED, including lifestyle changes, prescription medication, and injections, pumps and pellets. Viagra and similar ED medication are among the top-selling prescription drugs in modern pharmaceutical history.

Impotence is a particular issue for single men who want to date. About.com guide Cory Silverberg posted a straightforward and reassuring article about the challenges of dating for single men with ED. To read Silverberg’s article >CLICK HERE.<

Big Mountain Drugs Celebrates the Anniversary of its Rewards Program

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Pharmacy Rewards

Leading Canadian online pharmacy Big Mountain Drugs is celebrating the second anniversary of its unique and popular Rewards Program. BigMountainDrugs.com has rewarded its customers with a total of $500,000 in pharmacy rewards dollars since early 2009. Big Mountain Drugs remains the only Canadian pharmacy to offer a pharmacy rewards program.

The innovative Big Mountain Drugs Rewards Program offers customers an automatic 5% credit towards their next order on every purchase of both prescription and over-the-counter drugs. The pharmacy rewards program is open to all of the Canadian discount pharmacy’s customers, with no need to register or provide proof of membership. For example, all customers ordering $100 worth of drugs from Canada regularly receive a $5 credit on their account. When they order a refill or place a new order, the $5 is automatically deducted from their invoice.

Big Mountain Drugs is a licensed and fully accredited mail order pharmacy operating both brick and mortar and online pharmacies in the province of British Columbia. Like all legitimate online pharmacies, they require a valid current prescription to fill your order.

Big Mountain Drug’s mission is to provide safe and inexpensive pharmaceutical products to it valued customers. Big Mountain accomplishes this by constantly monitoring the global market for the best prices on brand name and generic drugs. To ensure the highest levels of quality and safety, the online Canada pharmacy only dispenses drugs approved by government bodies following stringent safety standards.

Drugs from Canada and overseas are often cheaper than in the US because production costs are lower and the governments regulate their prices, allow manufacturers to produce cheaper (but identical) generic drug versions sooner, and don’t allow pharmaceutical companies to engage in expensive direct-to-consumer advertising campaigns. It is not uncommon for prescription drugs purchased through a Canadian online pharmacy to be 50% cheaper than ones purchased in the US, and not unheard of for them to be up to 90% cheaper.

Generic drugs are popular online Canadian pharmacy products because they are required by law to be chemically and therapeutically the same as the original brand name drug, but are considerably cheaper. While those generic medications may look or be packaged differently than the one customers are used to, they must contain the exact same medication.

Big Mountain Drugs offers its customers additional savings by partnering with onlinepharmacycoupons.com. Online Pharmacy Coupons is the largest coupon website specializing in pharmacy coupons, offerings discount coupons for select licensed Canadian pharmacies. No sign up is required, and customers simply quote the coupon number when placing their prescription drug order.

Oral Asthma Medication Proves as Effective as Asthma Inhalers

Monday, May 16th, 2011

The stereotype of the geek with the asthma inhaler may soon be put to rest, as a large British study established that oral asthma medication is as effective as inhaled steroids. In a stroke of good timing for the manufacturer, the study results were released just as generic Singulair is poised to hit the US market.

A British study of 650 chronic asthma patients has discovered that asthma pills are just as effective as the more commonly used steroid asthma inhalers. Researchers tracked the study participants, aged 12 to 80, for two years in real life settings. The study included smokers and asthmatics with a range of other health conditions, normally excluded from clinical trials. (more…)

Numerous Non-Invasive Glucose Monitors under Development

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Diabetics will soon be able to keep track of their blood sugar without enduring multiple daily finger pricks. A number of non-invasive blood glucose monitors are on the horizon. Big Mounain Drugs is your first choice of Canadian pharmacy offering a variety of diabetes medications and diabetic insulin.

Diabetics are still awaiting a reliable, non-invasive means of blood glucose monitoring – one that doesn’t require breaking the skin or confirmation with a traditional monitoring method. The latest continuous glucose monitoring technology involves small sensors implanted in the skin that must be calibrated several times a day, and replaced every few days to a week to avoid infection. Because the blood sugar testers are implanted into the skin, the body sees the sensors as foreign objects, and frequently forms scar tissue around them.
