Taltz (Ixekizumab) is an injectable medicine used to treat people 6 years and older with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who may benefit from taking injections, pills, or treatment using phototherapy. Plaque psoriasis is the most common type of psoriasis, and it causes dry, itchy, raised skin patches covered with scales. Taltz is also used to treat adults with active psoriatic arthritis and active ankylosing spondylitis. Psoriatic arthritis is a form of arthritis with a skin rash. This condition causes inflamed, swollen, and painful joints. Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that causes inflammation in the joints and ligaments of the spine. It may also affect the peripheral joints and ligaments of the spine. Taltz is also used to treat adults with active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis with objective signs of inflammation, a chronic inflammatory condition. This condition is characterized by active inflammation of the spine and sacroiliac joints, which connect the lower spine and pelvis. Immunosuppressive agents like Taltz work by targeting and blocking interleukin-17A (IL-17A), which is a protein in the body. High levels of IL-17A can cause inflammation of the joints, leading to joint pain, stiffness, reduced mobility, and joint damage.
