Condylox Information:

Condylox (generic name: Podofilox, also known as Wartec) is a topical solution used in the treatment of external genital warts caused by HPV (human papillomavirus – that which causes many cases of cervical cancer). As well as its usefulness as an antiviral agent Condylox also has an anti-parasitic, a skin blistering and possible anti-tumour action. Condylox is not a cure for genital warts which are a symptom of HPV infection. Condylox should usually be applied to any warts twice daily using either the applicator that accompanies the medication or the fingertip and the solution allowed to dry before covering with normal underwear – no bandages or dressings are required when using Condylox unless your doctor instructs otherwise. Condylox is for use on external genitalia only (the vulva and penis) and care should be taken to avoid Condylox solution coming into contact with healthy skin surrounding the wart and in particular the urethra, rectum, or vagina. Condylox should always be taken exactly as your doctor instructs.

Condylox Side Effects:

Due its skin blistering properties, the most commonly reported side effects of Condylox are itching, tingling, burning, blistering and peeling of the skin and general skin irritation. Less commonly reported are inflammation and small, sometimes hard, sores. Rarely patients using Condylox have reported headache, nausea and blurred vision, pungent skin odour and sleep disturbances. Though sexual contact should be avoided while using Condylox as genital warts are highly contagious, some patients have reported that sexual intercourse is painful whilst undergoing and shortly after Condylox treatment. The most severe, though extremely rare, reaction to Condylox is anaphylaxis, that is, severe allergic reaction. If you experience swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing or breathing and light headedness seek medical assistance at once.

Condylox Precautions:

Condylox is only effective in treating genital warts caused by HPV infection; therefore it is essential to establish that any growths or sores of the genital region are of this nature. Applying Condylox to healthy skin or that damaged in some other way will result in discomfort, blistering and skin peeling. Apply Condylox exactly as directed by your doctor. Over application of Condylox will not hasten healing of genital warts but increase the side effects of Condylox solution such as burning and blistering. Sexual contact while using Condylox solution is not advised. Genital warts are highly contagious and remain so even during treatment with Condylox. Moreover, Condylox solution can affect the efficacy of barrier methods of birth control such as condoms and diaphragms. If you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breast feeding you should not use Condylox solution unless specifically advised to do so by your doctor.
