Letairis (Ambrisentan) is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in adults. It improves your ability to exercise and delays your condition from worsening. Letairis is an endothelin receptor antagonist that works by blocking endothelin, a substance made by the body. Endothelin causes blood vessels to narrow (constrict). It also causes abnormal growth of the muscle in the walls of the blood vessels in the lungs. This narrowing increases the pressure required to push the blood through the lungs to get oxygen. Letairis relaxes the muscles, which helps your heart pump blood more efficiently. Letairis is sometimes used with a medication called Tadalafil. Do not use Letairis if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant. Take this medication as directed. If you experience severe shortness of breath, swelling, rapid weight gain, signs of anemia, or signs of liver problems, consult your doctor immediately.
