Optivar Information:

Optivar (Generic name: Azelastine Hydrochloride Ophthalmic Solution) is a prescription medication used for the treatment of itching of the eyes associated with allergic conjunctivitis in patients three years of age or older. Azelastine is an antihistamine that works by blocking certain natural substances responsible for allergic symptoms. Optivar drops are only used for the eye. Apply Optivar eye drops exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Optivar Side Effects:

The most common Optivar side effects are bitter taste, eye burning/stinging, headache, and temporary blurred vision. If you are experiencing any serious side effects such as chills, eye pain, fever, flu symptoms, sore throat, vision problems, and a sign of severe allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Optivar Precautions:

Do NOT use Optivar drops if you are allergic to Azelastine Hydrochloride or to preservatives (e.g., Benzalkonium Chloride) or if you have any other allergies. Do not use Azelastine ophthalmic while you are wearing contact lenses. Wash your hands before using Optivar eyedrops. Tell your doctor about your medical history and all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you are taking. They may interact with Optivar drug, especially cold allergy products, and eye medications.
