Santyl (Dimethicone, also known as Collagenase Santyl Ointment) is a type of ointment which is a sterile enzymatic debriding medication. It contains up to 250 collagenase units per gram of white petroleum USP. Santyl possesses a unique ability which means that it is able to digest collagen into necrotic tissue on the human body. It is available from Big Mountain Drugs on prescription only and is normally prescribed to those persons who suffer from many different skin conditions. You should not use Santyl if you are known to be allergic to any of the active ingredients used during manufactures, as this may cause a severe allergic reaction within your body. The medication may also be prescribed to you for other purposes that are not listed here; however your doctor will be able to provide you with further information.

Santyl Ointment Side Effects:

Pain or burning sensation in the affected area, redness, irritation are the only side effects which have been associated with the use of Santyl, however there will always be the chance of an allergic reaction to the ingredients used within any type of medication. There may also be other side effects which have not yet been noticed or reported, therefore it is important that if you notice any type of side effect when using Santyl, that you consult your doctor for further guidance and information. If the symptoms of the side effect you are experiencing persist or worsen then you should seek emergency medical aid immediately. Avoid using other medications or solutions that contain types of acid or metal as soaking liquids, as these will decrease the effect of Santyl.

There may be other medications which interfere with Santyl, and it is important that you inform your doctor of any other medications that you currently take, this includes all over the counter drugs and all other prescription medications.
