Zaxine Information

Zaxine (Generic name: Rifaximin) is an antibiotic prescription drug used to fight bacterial infection only in the intestines. It has been approved for the treatment of traveler’s diarrhea caused by noninvasive strains of Escherichia coli (also known as “E.coli”) in patients 12 years of age or older. Rifaximin works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Rifaximin will NOT work for viral infections such as common cold & flu. Zaxine also has received new approval for reduction the risk of overt hepatic encephalopathy (HE) recurrence in patients with advanced liver disease. Take Zaxine tablets exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Zaxine Side Effects:

The most common Zaxine side effects are constipation, diarrhea, fever, gas, headache, nausea, stomach upset, vaginal itching or discharge, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as bloody stool, persistent diarrhea, stomach cramping, or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Zaxine Precautions:

Do not take Zaxine if you are allergic to Rifaximin or any of the ingredients in Zaxin emedication. Before taking Zaxine oral, tell your doctor if have had any medical conditions, especially of: diarrhea with a fever, bloody or watery diarrhea. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Zaxine drug, especially of: live vaccines.
