Besivance (Generic name: Besifloxacin Hydrochloride Ophthalmic Suspension 0.6%) is new topical ophthalmic solution used for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis, which is commonly called “pink eye". Signs of bacterial conjunctivitis include eyelids sticking together, itching, red eyes, swelling, watering, and a white or yellow sticky discharge from the eyes. Besifloxacin belongs to a class of drugs known as quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Besivance has been approved based on clinical trials in which bacterial conjunctivitis patients treated with Besivance recovered faster than patients who were treated with a solution that only contained a preservative. Use Besivance eye drops exactly as it was prescribed for you.
The most common Besivance side effects are blurred vision, eye pain, eye redness, headache, irritation, itching, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT use Besivance drops if you are allergic to Besifloxacin Hydrochloride or any of the ingredients in Besivance Ophthalmic Suspension. Patients should NOT wear contact lens if they have symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis or during the Besivance therapy. Before use Besivance Ophthalmic, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially of: other eye problems. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Besivance Cyclosporine, especially of: other eye care products.
