Trileptal Information:

Trileptal (Generic name: Oxcarbazepine) is an anti-seizure drug used to treat seizure disorders. Trileptal may be used alone or with other medications to treat partial seizures in adults and children over six years of age. Oxcarbazepine is an anticonvulsant that works by decreasing nerve impulses that cause seizures. Trileptal is also prescribed off-label to treat bipolar disorder. Take Trileptal exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Trileptal Side Effects:

The most common Trileptal side effects include acne, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, insomnia, nausea, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, easy bruising or bleeding, fever, jaundice, mental/mood changes, unusual weakness, vision problems, and serious allergic reaction (difficult breathing; hives; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Trileptal Precautions:

Do NOT take Trileptal if you are allergic to Oxcarbazepine or to any of the ingredients in Trileptal medication. Before taking Trileptal oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as decreased sodium blood levels (hyponatremia), kidney or liver disease, recent seizures, and suicidal thoughts. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Trileptal drug, especially of: anti-anxiety, antihistamines, calcium channel blockers (e.g.,felodipine, verapamil), hormonal birth control drugs, narcotic pain relievers, psychiatric, tranquilizers, tricyclics, and other seizure medications. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
