Aceon and Equivalent
Aceon (Perindopril Erbumine)
Generic Equivalent of Aceon
Aceon (Perindopril erbumine) Information
Aceon, which contains the active ingredient perindopril erbumine, is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor used primarily to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also prescribed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death or heart attack in patients with stable coronary artery disease. By managing blood pressure, Aceon helps protect the heart and kidneys from long-term damage and reduces the risk of stroke. The medication is taken by mouth as a tablet, typically once or twice daily, as directed by your doctor.
The mechanism of action of perindopril involves blocking an enzyme in the body that produces angiotensin II, a chemical that constricts blood vessels. By lowering levels of this substance, Aceon relaxes and widens blood vessels, lowering blood pressure. This process reduces the workload on the heart and improves blood flow throughout the body.
Aceon Side Effects
Aceon is generally well-tolerated, but some common side effects may occur as your body adjusts to the medication. Commonly reported effects include a persistent dry cough, dizziness or lightheadedness, headache, and fatigue. Some people may also experience back pain, stomach upset, or a mild skin rash.
More serious side effects can occur and require immediate medical attention.
Stop taking the medication and seek help if you experience:
• High potassium levels: muscle weakness, a slow or irregular heartbeat, or tingling in the extremities.
• Kidney problems: A significant change in the amount of urine or swelling in the feet, ankles, or hands.
• Liver problems: Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice), dark urine, or severe abdominal pain.
• Severe allergic reactions (angioedema): Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing; or intense stomach pain.
• Signs of infection: Fever, chills, or persistent sore throat.
Aceon Precautions
Do not use Aceon if you are allergic to perindopril or any other ACE inhibitor, or if you have a history of angioedema. It is also contraindicated for use with sacubitril or valsartan or by patients with diabetes who are taking aliskiren. Before starting treatment, inform your doctor of your complete medical history, especially if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart disease, or a history of severe allergic reactions.
Tell your doctor about all medications you are currently taking, including water pills (diuretics), potassium supplements, salt substitutes containing potassium, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen or naproxen.
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Aceon must not be used during pregnancy because it can cause serious injury or even death to a developing fetus. If you discover you are pregnant, stop the medication immediately and contact your doctor. It is generally not recommended to breastfeed while taking this medication, as it may pass into breast milk.
Take Aceon exactly as prescribed. It can be taken with or without food, though consistency is key for effective blood pressure management. Your doctor may start you on a low dose and gradually increase it based on your body's response. Do not skip doses, and try to take it at the same time each day to maintain stable levels in your system. Avoid becoming dehydrated, as excessive sweating or fluid loss can lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Store the tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and light, and keep out of reach of children.
