Adequan Canine Information
Adequan Canine (Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan) is used to control the signs of non-infectious degenerative and/or traumatic arthritis of synovial joints in dogs. It slows joint degeneration, supports cartilage repair, and improves joint lubrication and function. Disease-Modifying Osteoarthritis Drug (DMOAD) like Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan works by blocking enzymes that degrade the cartilage and synovial fluid, restoring joint elasticity and viscosity. It also reduces joint inflammation and improves joint lubrication.
Adequan Canine Side Effects
The most common side effects of Adequan Canine may include mild pain or swelling at the injection site, lethargy, reduced appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Call your veterinarian right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Abnormal bleeding or bruising;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as swelling, hives, or collapse
Adequan Canine Precautions
Do not administer Adequan Canine if your dog is allergic to Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start administering this medication, tell your veterinarian about your dog’s medical history, including if it has bleeding disorders, active infection, liver or kidney impairment, pregnant or breeding, or lactating. Tell your veterinarian about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Adequan Canine and other medications, such as heparin, corticosteroids, and other intramuscular drugs. Do not administer Adequan Canine if your dog is pregnant, breeding, or lactating. The safety and effectiveness of this drug in these groups have not been established. Use only if the potential benefits outweigh potential risks and under direct veterinary supervision.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Adequan Canine comes as an injection that should be administered intramuscularly. The treatment course is usually an injection twice a week for four weeks. Avoid injecting this medicine into a blood vessel. Avoid self-injection. In case of accidental injection, contact a healthcare provider immediately. Wash your hands after handling the product. Store Adequan Canine at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Discard any unused solution 28 days after the first vial puncture. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
