Advantage Dog Information
Advantage Dog (Imidacloprid) is used to prevent and treat flea infestation in dogs. Symptoms of flea infestation include scabbing, hair loss, scratching, crusted skin, and restlessness. The drug can kill adult fleas, flea larvae, and flea eggs. Advantage Dog is also used to treat lice infestation. Signs of lice infestation include itching, hair loss, and visible lice on the fur. Insecticides like Imidacloprid cause a dysfunction in the nervous system of the parasites, killing them.
Advantage Dog Side Effects
The most common side effects of Advantage Dog may include diarrhea, drooling, and vomiting. Call your veterinarian right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Hyperactivity;
• Increased grooming;
• Lethargy;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
Advantage Dog Precautions
Do not use Advantage Dog if your dog is allergic to Imidacloprid or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start administering this medication, tell your veterinarian about your dog’s medical history, including if it is lactating, breeding, or pregnant. Tell your doctor about all your pet’s medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Advantage Dog and other medications. Do not use Advantage Dog if your dog is pregnant or breeding. It is unknown if this drug will harm a pregnant dog. Inform your doctor if your dog is lactating. Imidacloprid is not expected to harm nursing dogs. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your veterinarian. Advantage Dog is a liquid medicine that should be applied to the skin. Do not administer this drug orally to your dog. Apply only one tube of Advantage Dog per treatment. This medicine is for use in dogs only. Do not use it on other animals. Ensure your dog is dry before applying the medicine. Part the hair on your dog’s back between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tube tip on the skin and gently squeeze it to expel the contents directly into the skin. Repeat the treatment monthly or as required. If your dog wears a decorative collar, remove it before application so it doesn’t absorb the product. Do not get this product in your dog’s eyes or allow your dog to ingest it. Avoid inhaling or swallowing this drug. Avoid contact with eyes. If the product comes in contact with your eyes, wash it out immediately. Wash your hands after applying Advantage Dog. This drug is available in different volumes for different dog weight classes. Use the appropriate medicine for your dog’s weight class. Store Advantage Dog at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
