Aristocort Information

Aristocort (Triamcinolone) treats inflammation and allergic skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Allergens or irritants in contact with the skin can trigger these allergic conditions. The medicine alleviates redness, itching, swelling, and other discomfort associated with these conditions. Aristocort is also used to treat other localized inflammatory conditions such as anal or genital itching, inflammation of the outer ear, and certain joint or tendon inflammations. Corticosteroids like Triamcinolone work by suppressing the activity of the immune system, thereby alleviating swelling, pain, and redness.

Aristocort Side Effects

Aristocort's most common side effects may include burning, itching, dryness, skin thinning, and irritation of the treated skin. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Potential skin changes, such as hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation;
• Signs of adrenal insufficiency, such as dizziness, unusual tiredness, appetite loss, weight loss, and low blood pressure;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of skin infection, such as increased redness, swelling, pus, or pain in the treated area

Aristocort Precautions

Do not use Aristocort if you are allergic to Triamcinolone or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have tuberculosis of the skin, untreated viral or fungal skin infections, ocular herpes simplex, glaucoma, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart failure, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer, thinning skin, vaccinations, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Aristocort and other medications, such as live vaccines, insulin, amphotericin B, aspirin, warfarin, erythromycin, estrogens, immunosuppressants, and other corticosteroids (oral or injected). Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Aristocort. It is unknown if the medicine will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Triamcinolone will pass into breastmilk or if it will harm a nursing infant. Do not give this medicine to children without talking to your doctor.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Aristocort comes as a cream and ointment. This medication is for topical application only. Please do not take it by mouth. Avoid applying Aristocort to your groin or armpits. Avoid contact with your eyes, mouth, or mucous membrane. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the medication. Gently clean the area of the skin where you will apply the cream or ointment with mild soap and water. Pat the skin dry completely with a soft towel. Squeeze a small amount of Aristocort cream or ointment onto your fingertip. The amount should be just enough to cover the affected area thinly. Gently smooth the cream or ointment over the affected skin. Avoid rubbing the medication in forcefully. Allow it to absorb into the skin on its own. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying the medication unless your hands are in the treated area. Do not bandage, wrap, or cover the treated area with dressings unless your doctor specifically instructs you. Covering the area can increase the absorption of the medication and the risk of side effects. Do not use Aristocort for longer than your doctor recommends. If your condition does not improve after a few weeks of treatment, or if it worsens, contact your doctor. This medication may increase your sensitivity to the sun. Use sunscreen of at least SPF 30 and wear protective clothing outdoors. Store Aristocort at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
