Atarax Information:

Atarax (Generic name: Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride) is an antihistamine drug used to relieve itching and irritations caused by allergic conditions. Atarax is also a sedative widely used for the treatment of nervousness and tension that may occur with certain mental/mood disorders such as anxiety and dementia. Atarax is also used to treat or prevent nausea, motion sickness and vomiting. Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine. It works by blocking the action of histamine that your body produces during an allergic reaction. Take Atarax tablets exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Hydroxyzine HCL is also used as a veterinarian medicine to treat allergies in dogs and cats. Hydroxyzine is effective against hives, itching, and rashes. It can be used as a mild sedative or tranquilizer for anxious dogs. Consult your veterinarian before giving Hydroxyzine to your pet.

Atarax Side Effects:

The most common Atarax side effects are blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, nausea, stomach pain, and weight gain. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, confusion, jaundice, mental/ mood changes, seizures, tremor, vision changes, or signs of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Atarax Precautions:

Do NOT use Atarax if you are allergic to Hydroxyzine or any of the ingredients in Atarax medication. Before taking Atarax oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially of: breathing problems, glaucoma, heart problems, high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, seizures, thyroid disorder, urination problems. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Atarax drug, especially of: antidepressants, narcotics, phenothiazines, sedatives, and other antihistamines.
