Augmentin Information:

Augmentin (Generic name: Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium) is an oral antibiotic medication used to treat certain bacterial infections of the bladder, kidney, lung, prostate, sinus, and skin. Augmentin is a penicillin type antibiotic containing active ingredients Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium (as Clavulanic Acid). The combination of Amoxicillin with Clavulanic acid results in an effective antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. Augmentin should NOT be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold and flu. Take Augmentin tablets exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Augmentin Side Effects:

The most common Augmentin side effects are constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, insomnia, nausea, stomach upset, vaginal itching or discharge, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, confusion, depression, easy bruising or bleeding, fever, jaundice, numbness, seizures, or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Augmentin Precautions:

Do not take Augmentin if you are allergic to Amoxicillin Clavulanate or any of the ingredients in Augmentin medication. Before taking Augmentin oral, tell your doctor if have had any medical conditions, especially of: certain types of infections, kidney or liver disease, other allergies. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Augmentin drug, especially of: allopurinol, live bacterial vaccines, oral contraceptives, probenecid, and other antibiotics.
