Bactrim Information:

Bactrim (Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim) is an antibiotic used to treat infections, including ear infections, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, traveller’s diarrhea, shigellosis, and certain types of pneumonia. Bactrim does not work against viral infections such colds and flu. Unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to its decreased effectiveness. Bactrim reduces the ability of the bacteria to grow by blocking two consecutive steps in the biosynthesis of nucleic acids and proteins essential to the bacteria’s function. This eventually eliminates the infection. You should not use Bactrim if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as it can cause complications. Use effective birth control during treatment. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant during treatment. Bactrim should not be used in children younger than 2 months. To make sure Bactrim is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, anemia, or low blood platelets. Tell your doctor about any other medications you are currently using. Take this medication for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection if fully cleared. If you have any serious side effects, signs of a severe skin reaction, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
