Baqsimi Information
Baqsimi (Glucagon Nasal Powder) treats severe low blood sugar in adults and children at least 4 years old. Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia occurs when the blood sugar levels drop too low, causing symptoms such as headache, hunger, dizziness, pale skin, anxiety, and sweating. Poor nutrition, health conditions, skipping meals, incorrect use of insulin, and excessive exercise can cause low blood sugar. Hypoglycemia should be treated as quickly as possible. Having low blood sugar for too long can cause seizures, coma, or death. Glycogenolytic agents like Glucagon break down glycogen, a form of glucose, in the liver. This releases glucose into the bloodstream, raising blood sugar levels.
Baqsimi Side Effects
The most common side effects of Baqsimi may include runny nose, nausea, itchy eyes, red eyes, headache, and cough. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Increased blood pressure;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Baqsimi comes as a single-use nasal device. Use this medicine in the nose only. Do not take it by mouth. Hold the device between your fingers and thumb. Gently insert the device's tip into one nostril until your fingers touch the outside of the nose. Push the plunger in. The dose is complete when the green line on the plunger disappears. Do not press the plunger until you are ready to administer the dose. Baqsimi is a single-use medicine. It only contains one dose. Do not reuse the drug. Baqsimi should only be used to treat hypoglycemia if the person cannot eat, passes out, or is having a seizure. If after administering Baqsimi to another person, turn them on their side to prevent choking if they are unconscious. If the person does not respond after 15 minutes of administering Baqsimi, you may administer another dose. When the person can swallow safely, give them a fast-acting source of sugar, like juice. Then, encourage them to eat a snack like crackers with peanut butter or cheese. Follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines diligently to prevent severe hypoglycemia. Avoid drinking alcohol. Alcohol can lower your blood sugar. Store Baqsimi at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
