Benzaclin Information
Benzaclin (Clindamycin/Benzoyl Peroxide) is used to treat acne vulgaris. Acne vulgaris is a common type of acne that causes blackheads, whiteheads, and other pimples on your skin, including inflammatory acne with pus-filled bumps. Acne vulgaris often appears on the face, chest, shoulders, and back. Benzaclin is a combination of two medicines - Clindamycin and Benzoyl Peroxide. Antibacterials like Benzoyl Peroxide kill bacteria and remove dead skin cells to keep the pores clear. Antibiotics like Clindamycin work by stopping the growth of the bacteria causing acne.
Benzaclin Side Effects
The most common side effects of Benzaclin may include mild burning, dryness of treated skin, itching, and redness. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Watery or bloody diarrhea;
• Severe redness, burning, or stinging of treated skin areas
Benzaclin Precautions
Do not use Benzaclin if you are allergic to Clindamycin/Benzoyl Peroxide or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have chron's disease, enteritis, severe diarrhoea from antibiotic use, ulcerative colitis, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Benzaclin and other medications, such as erythromycin, dapsone, other topical medicines, etc. Do not use Benzaclin if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Clindamycin/Benzoyl Peroxide will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Benzaclin while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Clindamycin/Benzoyl Peroxide passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children without talking to your doctor.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Benzaclin comes as a topical gel. Apply this medicine on your skin only. Wash your hands before and after applying BenzaClin. Wash your face with a mild cleanser (not soap) and pat the skin dry with a clean towel. Avoid getting BenzaClin in your eyes, mouth, or nose, or on your lips. If it does get into any of these areas, wash it with water. Do not apply this medicine to sunburned, dry, irritated, or broken skin. It may take several weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.BenzaClin can make you sunburn more easily. Avoid exposure to sunlight. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) outdoors. Avoid using sunscreen containing PABA on the same skin treated with BenzaClin, or discolouration may occur. Benzoyl peroxide can bleach hair or fabrics. Do not let this medicine touch clothing, hair, coloured towels, or bed linens. Store Benzaclin at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
