Brethine Information:

Brethine (Generic name: Terbutaline Sulfate) is used to treat wheezing and shortness of breath from lung diseases (e.g., asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis and emphysema). Terbutaline is a bronchodilator, or beta agonist (beta-adrenergic receptor agonist), it works by relaxing muscles in the airway to improve breathing. Brethine comes in turbuhaler device which is manufactured by AstraZeneca in Canada, available in 0.5 mg 100 dose or 200 dose. It also comes in tablet form made by AstraZeneca in United Kingdom, available in 5 mg. Take Brethine exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Brethine Side Effects:

The most common Brethine side effects are difficult sleeping, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, nausea, nervousness, shakiness or tremor. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps, numbness, tremors, weakness, wheezing, and serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing, hives, rash, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.

Brethine Precautions:

Do not take Brethine if you are allergic to Terbutaline or similar bronchodilators. Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, low blood potassium levels (hypokalemia), overactive thyroid, seizures, etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Brethine drug. Especially: beta-blockers, COMT inhibitors, diuretics, insulin, MAOIs, or tricyclic antidepressants. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
