Cambia Information

Cambia (diclofenac potassium for oral solution) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) available as a powder that is mixed with water to create an oral solution. It is specifically formulated and indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. A migraine is a severe type of headache often accompanied by symptoms such as throbbing pain, sensitivity to light and sound, and nausea or vomiting. Cambia works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, which are natural substances in the body that contribute to pain and inflammation, including the processes involved in a migraine attack. Its unique oral solution formulation allows for rapid absorption into the bloodstream, which is crucial for providing quick relief during the onset of a migraine.

Cambia Side Effects

The most common side effects of Cambia may include nausea, abdominal pain, discomfort, indigestion, dizziness, and dysgeusia (a bad or altered taste in the mouth). These side effects are usually mild and transient. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Black, tarry, or bloody stools or vomit that looks like coffee grounds (signs of gastrointestinal bleeding);
• Chest pain, sudden weakness on one side of the body, shortness of breath, or slurred speech (signs of heart attack or stroke);
• Decreased urination or significant swelling in the legs (signs of kidney problems);
• New or worsening high blood pressure;
• Severe allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat;
• Severe skin reactions (e.g., severe rash with redness, blistering, or peeling);
• Unexplained weight gain or swelling (fluid retention);
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (signs of liver problems).

Cambia Precautions

Do not use Cambia if you are allergic to diclofenac or any other ingredients in this medication or if you have had an allergic reaction (like asthma, hives, or severe swelling) to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have a history of ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestines, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, heart disease (including heart attack or heart failure), high blood pressure, kidney disease, liver disease, asthma, bleeding disorders, or if you smoke or drink alcohol regularly. Tell your doctor if you are dehydrated or have been ill with vomiting or diarrhea. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cambia and other medications, such as blood thinners (anticoagulants like warfarin), corticosteroids, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), lithium, aspirin, other NSAIDs, methotrexate, certain antidepressants (SSRIs or SNRIs), and medications that inhibit or induce CYP2C9 enzymes. Concurrent use of alcohol can increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Cambia. NSAIDs, especially during the third trimester (at 20 weeks gestation or later), can harm the fetus and cause problems with labour or delivery. Use of NSAIDs is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the last trimester. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed before using Cambia. Diclofenac passes into breast milk. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Cambia is not indicated for use in children. In older adults, there is an increased risk of serious side effects, including gastrointestinal bleeding and kidney problems; your doctor will monitor you closely.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Cambia comes as a powder in a packet. Empty the contents of one packet into a small amount of water (e.g., 1 to 2 ounces or 30 to 60 mL), mix well, and drink the entire mixture immediately. Do not use any liquids other than water to mix Cambia. It is typically recommended to take Cambia on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal) for the fastest absorption and relief. Do not save any unused solutions. Take Cambia at the first sign of a migraine attack. Do not exceed the recommended dose or take more than one dose in 24 hours without consulting your doctor. Store Cambia packets at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
