Celectol Information
Celectol (Celiprolol Hydrochloride) is primarily used in the treatment of hypertension to reduce blood pressure. It may be used to treat chest pain caused by heart conditions (angina pectoris). Celectol, which contains the active ingredient celiprolol hydrochloride, is a unique third-generation cardioselective beta-blocker. In hypertension, where the force of blood against artery walls is chronically too high, celiprolol works by blocking some beta receptors in the heart to reduce heart rate and output. However, its standout effect is its vasodilating property, as it actively relaxes and widens the peripheral blood vessels.
This dual action helps lower vascular resistance, making it easier for the heart to pump blood and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events associated with hypertension. Unlike other medications in its drug class, it has a dilatory effect on the bronchioles, making it better tolerated by individuals with minor respiratory sensitivities, such as asthma.
Celectol Side Effects
Although not experienced by everyone, celiprolol has its side effects. Common side effects of this medication include nausea, dry mouth, dizziness or lightheadedness, headache, difficulty maintaining erections, and unusual skin sensations such as numbness or tingling sensations. Contact your doctor if these mild side effects persist or worsen.
Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including the following:
• Allergic reactions such as breathing difficulties, body itching, body rash, skin blistering, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, lips, or throat;
• Chest pain, irregular heartbeat;
• Mental problems such as depression, hallucination, or delusion;
• Systemic lupus erythematosus, which involves flu-like symptoms, swollen or painful joints, increased sensitivity to sunlight, hair loss, abdominal pain, anaemia.
Inform your doctor about any other side effects you notice that are not listed here.
Celectol Precautions
Do not take this medication if you are allergic to celiprolol, other ingredients in Celectol, or any other medicines. Before you start taking this medication, ensure that you inform your doctor about any prior or current medical conditions, including the following:
• Adrenal gland tumor;
• Breathing problems such as asthma, emphysema;
• Diabetes;
• Heart problems such as a slow heartbeat;
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;
• Low blood pressure;
• Peripheral arterial disease, such as Raynaud’s disease;
• Psoriasis
Tell your doctor you are taking this medication if you are going to have a surgical procedure (including dental surgery). You may feel dizzy after taking this medication. Therefore, refrain from driving, operating machinery, or performing other tasks requiring quick focus changes until you understand how this medication affects you. Celiprolol is generally avoided during pregnancy unless the benefits for the mother outweigh the risks to the fetus, as determined by your doctor, as it can harm the unborn baby, especially when used in the last 3 months of pregnancy. Celiprolol is not recommended while breastfeeding. It is excreted in breast milk, and the potential for adverse effects in the breastfed infant is a concern. Using celiprolol with some other medications like verapamil or diltiazem can significantly increase the risk of severe bradycardia (slow heartbeat) and life-threatening effects. Therefore, it is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications, including herbal medications and supplements, that you are taking before starting celiprolol to prevent drug interactions.
Take celiprolol tablets on an empty stomach, ideally at least thirty minutes before breakfast or two hours after your last meal. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water rather than crushing or chewing it. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose for you depending on your blood pressure response. You should maintain a consistent daily schedule to keep the medication levels steady in your bloodstream. Never stop taking this medication abruptly, as sudden withdrawal can trigger a dangerous rebound in blood pressure or heart rate. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next scheduled pill. Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of reach of children and pets.
