Clobex and Equivalent
Clobex (Clobetasol Propionate)
Generic Equivalent of Clobex
Clobex Information
Clobex (Clobetasol Propionate) shampoo is used to treat severe scalp psoriasis. Severe scalp psoriasis is a chronic, autoimmune skin condition with thick, scaly, and often itchy patches on the scalp. These patches can extend to the hairline, forehead, ears, and neck, potentially causing temporary hair loss and discomfort. Clobex spray is used to treat moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. This condition appears on the elbows, knees, scalp, lower back, and other corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. Topical corticosteroids like clobetasol propionate work by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune response in the skin, which helps to relieve symptoms such as itching and scaling in corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, including plaque psoriasis.
Clobex Side Effects
The most common side effects of Clobex may include dryness, itching, irritation, and burning at the application site. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Signs of adrenal insufficiency, such as dizziness, unusual tiredness, appetite loss, weight loss, and low blood pressure;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of Cushing’s syndrome, such as weight gain, stretch marks, acne, skin thinning, and high blood pressure

Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have untreated skin infections, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, rosacea, pruritus without inflammation, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Clobex and other medications, such as other corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, live vaccines, insulin, other topical medications, and CYP3A4 inhibitors. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Clobex. It is unknown if Clobetasol propionate will harm an unborn baby. Do not use this medicine in children without talking to your doctor.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Clobex comes as a shampoo and spray. Use the shampoo on your scalp only. Please do not use it on other body parts, including your face, groin, or armpits. Avoid contact with your eyes or lips. Apply the shampoo to a dry scalp, not wet hair. Leave the shampoo for 15 minutes. Do not cover your scalp with a shower cap after applying the shampoo. Wash your hands thoroughly after using the shampoo. After 15 minutes, wet your hair and scalp with water and lather the shampoo thoroughly. Rinse all parts of your scalp and any other areas the shampoo may have come in contact with. If you want further cleansing, use regular, non-medicated shampoo after rinsing Clobex. Clobex shampoo is a corticosteroid and should not be used longer than your doctor recommends. Clobex spray is for use on the skin only. Do not use Clobex on areas with untreated fungal or bacterial infections unless specifically directed by your doctor. Shake the spray can well before each use. Spray a thin, even layer onto the affected skin area, and avoid spraying it directly on your face. Gently rub the sprayed medication onto the treated skin if directed by your doctor. Allow the sprayed area to dry completely before getting dressed. Avoid washing the treated area immediately after application. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after using the spray unless you treat your hands. Store Clobex at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
