This hormonal surge is vital for patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome. By boosting these natural signals, Clomid encourages the development of ovarian follicles and stimulates the processes necessary for ovulation. This medication is most effective when used to bridge the gap between irregular cycles and a predictable window for conception.

Clomid Side Effects

Although not experienced by everyone, Clomid has its side effects. Common mild and temporary side effects of this medication include warmth, redness, or tingly feeling, nausea, vomiting, bloating, breast pain or tenderness, headache, dizziness, and breakthrough bleeding or spotting. Contact your doctor if these mild side effects persist or worsen.

Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including the following:
• Allergic reactions such as breathing difficulties, body itching, body rash, skin blistering, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, lips, or throat;
• Blurry vision;
• Liver problems with symptoms like yellow eyes and skin, nausea and vomiting;
• Over-stimulation of the ovary with symptoms like pain in the pelvis, stomach or calf, swelling or feeling bloated, passing less urine, difficulty in breathing or an increase in weight;
• Pancreatitis with symptoms like upper abdominal pain that radiates into the back; swollen and tender abdomen;
• Stroke symptoms such as differential limb weakness, slurred speech, confusion

Clomid Precautions

Do not take this medication if you are allergic to clomiphene, other ingredients in Clomid, or any other medicines. Before you start taking this medication, ensure that you inform your doctor about any prior or current medical conditions, including the following:
• Abnormal vaginal bleeding;
• Adrenal gland disease;
• Brain tumor;
• Endometriosis;
• Endometrial cancer, breast cancer;
• High levels of fat, such as triglycerides, in the blood;
• Liver disease;
• Ovarian cysts or enlarged ovaries not caused by polycystic ovarian syndrome;
• Seizure disorder;
• Thyroid gland disorders;
• Uterine fibroids

This medication can increase the risk of multiple pregnancies (such as twins and triplets) and ectopic pregnancy. Consult your physician about these risks before taking this medication. Because of the potential for sudden blurred vision or dizziness, be very cautious when driving at night or operating heavy machinery until you know how the drug affects you. If you notice blurred vision, flashes of light, floaters, or double vision, discontinue the medication immediately. While these visual symptoms usually resolve after you stop, there have been rare cases in which the changes persist or become permanent. This medication should not be used during pregnancy. Stop this medication and inform your doctor if you get pregnant while taking this medication. Consult your doctor before using this medication while breastfeeding. Clomid should also not be used in children and elderly individuals, as it is intended for use only in women of reproductive age.

Taking Clomid alongside other ovulation inducers (like gonadotropins or follicle-stimulating injections) significantly increases the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Therefore, it is essential to inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking, including herbal medicines and supplements, before starting clomiphene to prevent potential drug interactions.

This medication is available in tablet form with varying dosage strengths. Consult your physician for the appropriate dose, as this may vary based on your medical condition and response to therapy, among other factors. The recommended dose is 50 mg, once daily for 5 days. Take this medication by mouth only as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew these tablets. Do not use this medication longer than prescribed. Long-term use of this medication is not recommended and should not be used for more than 6 cycles. Store this medication at room temperature, away from sunlight and moisture, and out of children's reach.
