Colazal Information:

Colazal (Generic name: Balsalazide Disodium) is a prescribed medication approved for the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is 1 of 2 types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the other being Crohn's disease. Balsalazide Disodium is used to treat a certain bowel disease (ulcerative colitis). Balsalazide is an anti-inflammatory drug that works by decreasing swelling in the colon. It helps to reduce symptoms of ulcerative colitis such as diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and stomach pain. Take Colazal exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Colazal Side Effects:

The most common Colazal side effects are headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, respiratory infection or arthralgia. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as mood changes, trouble urination, unusual tiredness, severe stomach pain, persistent nausea, fever, easy bruising or bleeding, fast heartbeat, and serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.

Colazal Precautions:

Do NOT take Colazal oral if you are allergic to aspirin, NSAIDs (e. g., ibuprofen, celecoxib), or salicylates (e.g., salsalate), or if you have any other allergies. Before taking Colazal, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as stomach or intestinal blockage (e.g., pyloric stenosis), liver or kidney disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Colazal drug, especially of: antibiotics, certain drugs to treat gout, drugs to treat diabetes, drugs containing 6-mercaptopurine, mesalamine, methotrexate.
