Coly Mycin M Information

Coly-Mycin M (colistin as colistimethate sodium) is used to treat infections that are sudden and severe, or are chronic and caused by certain bacteria or infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by certain bacteria. Antibacterial drugs like Coly-Mycin M treat only bacterial infections. They do not treat viral infections. Coly Mycin M should be used exactly as directed. Misuse or overuse of Coly-Mycin M could lead to the growth of bacteria that will not be killed by Coly Mycin (resistance). This means that Coly-Mycin M may not work for you in the future. Coly-Mycin M is an antibiotic that works by killing bacteria in your body by damaging the cell wall of the bacteria. Coly Mycin M is available as powder for solution with dosage 150 mg/vial.

Coly-Mycin M Side Effects

The most common side effects of Coly-Mycin M may include dizziness or vertigo (light-headedness); tingling of the tongue; itching of the skin; hives; fever; nausea and vomiting; upset stomach; diarrhea. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• A seizure (convulsions);
• Breathing difficulty, breathing stops;
• Fever;
• Kidney problems (abdominal or back pain, dark urine, decreased urination, nausea, swelling of the arms, feet or legs, vomiting, painful or difficult urination, feeling tired or short of breath);
• Slow or slurred speech;
• Severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody;
• Slow breathing;
• Unusual muscle weakness.

Coly-Mycin M Precautions

Do not use Coly-Mycin M if you are allergic to colistimethate sodium or to any other ingredients in this medication or if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have kidney problems. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Coly-Mycin M and other medications such as other antibiotics or muscle relaxants. Coly-Mycin M may cause dizziness or light-headedness. Do not drive or use machines while you are receiving this medicine. Antibiotic medicines can cause diarrhea, which may be a sign of a new infection. If you have diarrhea that is watery or bloody, call your doctor. Do not use anti-diarrhea medicine unless your doctor tells you to. If you need surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using Coly Mycin M. You may need to stop using the medicine for a short time.
