Coveram Information
Coveram (Amlodipine/Perindopril) is a combination medication used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), a chronic condition where the force of blood against arterial walls is consistently too high. It is used in people whose blood pressure is not controlled with a single medication or in individuals whose initial treatment will require a combination of medications to achieve desired blood pressure control. Unmanaged high blood pressure can lead to serious health problems, such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. It can often be asymptomatic, but over time, it may cause these complications. Coveram helps prevent these long-term complications of high blood pressure.
Coveram contains two active ingredients: perindopril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, and amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. Perindopril appears to lower blood pressure by inhibiting the production of angiotensin II, thereby preventing vasoconstriction and reducing aldosterone secretion. Meanwhile, amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle, thereby directly relaxing blood vessels. The combination of these two active ingredients in Coveram provides a more comprehensive approach to managing hypertension, as they target different pathways involved in blood pressure control.

This medication can cause dizziness, so avoid driving, operating machinery, or performing other potentially hazardous tasks until you know how it affects you. Inform your doctor that you are taking this medication if you are scheduled for surgery, as a dangerous drop in blood pressure can occur when the perindopril component interacts with general anesthesia. Also, tell your doctor that you are taking this medication before undergoing blood-filtering procedures such as LDL apheresis or dialysis. This medication should not be used during pregnancy as it can cause serious injury or even death to a developing fetus, especially during the second and third trimesters. It is generally discontinued immediately upon detection of pregnancy. It is also not recommended to breastfeed while taking this medication, as it can pass through breastmilk and affect the infant. Coveram is not recommended for use in children. Coveram should be used with caution in older adults, as they may be at an increased risk of experiencing side effects of this medication.
Taking Coveram with lithium can increase lithium levels to toxic amounts. Likewise, taking Coveram with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen can reduce its blood-pressure-lowering effect and potentially strain the kidneys. Therefore, before using this medication, inform your doctor about any other medications you are currently taking, including herbal medicines and supplements, to determine if it is safe to use along with Coveram. Take Coveram tablets preferably in the morning before breakfast, as prescribed by your doctor. Take plenty of fluids while taking this medication to prevent dehydration. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking this medication, as it can lead to toxic accumulation of the active ingredients in Coveram. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dosage schedule based on your response to treatment. Take this medication regularly at the same time each day for optimal effectiveness. Check out the leaflet in the medication pack for more usage instructions. Store this medication at room temperature, protect it from light and moisture, and keep it out of the reach of children.
