Cyclocort Information
Cyclocort (Amcinonide) is a prescription medication used to treat various skin conditions (such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash, and psoriasis. The active substance in Cyclocort is Amcinonide. Highly potent corticosteroids such as Amcinonide reduce the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these conditions. Cyclocort cream may also be used for conditions not mentioned in this guide, depending on your doctor’s decision.
Cyclocort Side Effects
The most common side effects of Cyclocort may include striae, skin atrophy, burning, itching, irritation, or dryness at the application site. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, such as:
• Acneiform eruption on the face;
• Changes in skin colour, such as bleaching or lightening of the treated area;
• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Recurrent skin infections;
• Severe skin irritation and itching;
• Small red bumps on the skin (folliculitis);
• Swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, or face
Cyclocort Precautions
Before using Cyclocort, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or other topical corticosteroids (such as hydrocortisone or prednisone lotion) or if you have any other allergies. Cyclocort is a cream that should be used only on the skin. However, do not use it on the face, groin, or underarms unless directed to do so by your doctor. Follow your prescription label carefully. Before applying the medication, clean and dry the affected area and shake the bottle well before using. Apply a thin film of the medication to the affected area and gently rub in as your doctor directs, usually 2 to 3 times daily. Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area unless directed by your doctor. After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. When applying this medication near the eyes, avoid getting it in the eyes as this may worsen or cause glaucoma. Also, avoid getting this medication in the nose or mouth. Do not use it for longer than prescribed. Inform your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse after 2 weeks.
Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including history of skin allergy, infected or open wounds on the skin, liver problems, kidney disease, diabetes mellitus; think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Cyclocort and other medications, such as topical steroid creams, warfarin, and NSAIDs. During pregnancy, Cyclocort cream should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is unknown if this drug passes into breast milk when applied to the skin. Similar medications pass into breast milk when taken by mouth. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Store Cyclocort cream at room temperature and keep it out of the reach of children.
