Dalacin T Information

Dalacin T (Clindamycin 1%) is used to treat acne in adults. Adults may experience acne due to excess sebum production, clogged follicles, inflammation, family history, or bacteria on the skin. Changes in hormones, including those brought on by pregnancy and menstruation, can also trigger acne. Dalacin T is a topical lotion. Anti-infective/antibiotic medications like Dalacin T work by decreasing acne lesions and stopping the growth of skin bacteria causing acne.

Dalacin T Side Effects

The most common side effects of Dalacin T may include dry or scaly skin; irritable or oily skin; itching; new or worse acne; stinging or burning sensation of skin; redness; headache; Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Abdominal pain;
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction, e.g., abdominal cramps, swelling of the face and throat, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting;
• Skin rash, itching, redness, or swelling not present before using this medication;
• Watery or severe diarrhea

Dalacin T Precautions

Do not use Dalacin T if you are allergic to Clindamycin or any other ingredients in this medication. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have a history of antibiotic-associated colitis; have a history of inflammatory bowel disease; are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant; are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Dalacin T and other medications like erythromycin; acetylcholine; other topical medications. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Dalacin T should only be used in pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is not known if Clindamycin will pass into breast milk or if it will harm a nursing infant. Dalacin T should not be used in children younger than 12 years old. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop or change the dose of this medicine without talking to your doctor. Dalacin T is a topical lotion. Shake the bottle well before use and wash the affected area before applying the lotion. Apply a thin film of the lotion to the affected area by gently rubbing it into your skin. You may use a cotton pad or your fingers. Do not wash the area for at least 2 hours after applying the medication. Wash and dry your hands before and after using the lotion. It may take up to 8 weeks of using Dalacin T to see improvements. Use Dalacin T for the full length of time prescribed. Stopping the medication too early may allow the bacteria causing the acne to return and be harder to treat. Clindamycin topical contains an alcohol base that may cause burning and irritation of the eye. Avoid contact with your eyes. In case of accidental contact, wash it with large amounts of cool tap water. Dalacin T has an unpleasant taste. Use caution when applying it around the mouth. Store Dalacin T upright at room temperature, away from light and heat.
