Dermotic Information

Dermotic (Fluocinolone) is used to treat eczema of the outer ear, also known as chronic itchy ear. This condition can occur due to infections, allergies, or skin conditions. Other causes include earwax buildup and nervous habits like scratching the ears with objects like bobby pins or toothpicks. Corticosteroids like Fluocinolone work by suppressing the body's immune response at the application site to reduce skin inflammation, redness, and itching.

Dermotic Side Effects

The most common side effects of Dermotic may include stinging, burning, redness, or dryness at the application site, mild ear irritation, acne around the ear, and skin lightening. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Ear infections;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Skin thinning;
• Stretch marks

Dermotic Precautions

Do not use Dermotic if you are allergic to Fluocinolone or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have an infection, perforated eardrum, peanut oil allergy, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Dermotic and other medications, such as aldesleukin, other topic corticosteroids, other topical medications, etc. Do not use Dermotic if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is unknown if this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Dermotic while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Fluocinolone passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. The safety and effectiveness of Dermotic cream in children younger than 2 years old have not been established.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Dermotic comes as ear drops. Wash your hands before applying the ear drops. Lie on your side or tilt the affected ear upward. Hold the dropper directly over the ear, and place the prescribed number of drops into the ear canal as your doctor directs, usually twice a day. Hold the earlobe up and back to help the drops roll into an adult's ear. In children, hold the earlobe down and back. Keep the head tilted for about 1 minute, or insert a soft cotton plug if your doctor recommends it. Remove the plug after 1 minute. Repeat for the other ear if so directed. Do not rinse the dropper. Replace the cap after use. Please do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your ear or any other surface to avoid contamination. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the area unless directed by your doctor. This medication is for your ears only. Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. If the medication gets into these areas, rinse with plenty of water. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Use it at the same time each day to help you remember. Your dose may vary depending on your condition and response to treatment. Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens after 2 weeks. Store Dermotic at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
