Diltiazem Lidocaine Information

Diltiazem Lidocaine is a medication used to treat patients with anal fissures. Diltiazem Lidocaine belongs to the class of medication called calcium channel blockers which work by dilating blood vessels to promote blood flow to help the growth of new skin over the tear in the lining of the rectum. This medication also helps to minimize symptoms of pain caused by the tear in the rectum. This medication also relaxes the muscle around the anus (the anal sphincter), which reduces the anal pressure and increasing the blood flow to the area to allow healing to occur.

Diltiazem Lidocaine Side Effects

Common side effects of Diltiazem Lidocaine include:
• Dizziness;
• Headache;
• Nausea;
• Swelling (of the hands or feet);
• Weakness

Call your doctor immediately if any of these adverse effects occur:
• Blurred vision;
• Bluish lips/skin/nails;
• Chest pain;
• Dark Urine;
• Dry mouth;
• Fainting;
• Fast pounding heartbeat;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Paleness;
• Rash;
• Seizure; • Severe dizziness;
• Severe weakness;
• Shortness of breath (even with minimal activity);
• Sweating;
• Trouble breathing;
• Unusual tiredness

Diltiazem Lidocaine Precautions

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. Inform your doctor of any other medications you take including prescription medication, over the counter drugs, vitamins and herbal supplements, to avoid any negative interactions between drugs. Inform your doctor if you take any of the following drugs, as they may have interactions with Diltiazem:
• Alteplase;
• Drugs for high blood pressure (beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors);
• Drugs for sexual problems (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil);
• Migraine Drugs;
• Water pills/diuretics (furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide)

Inform your doctor of your medical history. You should refrain from using Diltiazem Lidocaine if you have:
• Cardiomyopathy;
• Chronic heart failure;
• Dehydration;
• Increased pressure in the brain;
• Low blood pressure;
• Recent heart attack;
• Severe anemia

Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant. It is safe to wait at least one hour after applying the ointment before breast feeding.
