Diltiazem Topical Ointment is a medication used to help heal anal fissures, promote wound healing, or treat external thrombosed hemorrhoids. Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker that enlarges the blood vessels to increase blood flow to the injured area, promoting healing. Diltiazem also reduces pressure in order to ease spasms and decrease pain. Take this medication as directed. Only apply the prescribed amount. Do not use Diltiazem if you are allergic to diltiazem hydrochloride, if you are pregnant, if you suffer from a heart condition, or if you take medications for blood pressure. Tell your doctor about any medications you take in order to reduce the risk of interactions. While using Diltiazem, you may experience mild itching around the application site.
