Dristan Nasal Spray Information

Dristan Nasal Spray (Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride) is used for the temporary relief of nasal congestion caused by the common cold and allergic conditions, such as allergic rhinitis, sinusitis and year-round allergies. It also relieves sinus congestion and pressure associated with these allergic conditions. When someone with allergies breathes in an allergen (like pollen or dust), their immune system reacts, causing inflammation in the nasal passages and sinuses. Dristan Nasal Spray helps to reduce the resultant symptoms associated with the inflammation occurring in the nasal passage and sinuses. Its active ingredient is oxymetazoline hydrochloride, which belongs to the class of medications called alpha-adrenergic agonists. It works by constricting the blood vessels in the nasal and sinus mucosa. This action, in turn, reduces swelling, opens up the airways, and alleviates nasal stuffiness and sinus pressure. Dristan Nasal Spray is a rapid-acting and long-lasting medicine, which typically provides relief within 5-10 minutes, and its effects can last up to 12 hours.

Dristan Nasal Spray Side Effects

Therefore, inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines, including herbal supplements, that you are taking before starting Dristan Nasal Spray to prevent potential drug interactions. Apply two or three sprays to each nostril every 12 hours, not more than twice a day. Do not tilt your head backwards while spraying this medication in your nostrils.
