Eucrisa Information

Eucrisa (crisaborole topical ointment) is a non-steroidal topical medication primarily used to treat mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and pediatric patients 3 months of age and older. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by red, itchy, dry, and sometimes oozing patches of skin. Eucrisa works as a phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor. Inhibiting PDE4 helps to block the production of specific inflammatory mediators (like cytokines) that contribute to the inflammation, redness, and itching associated with eczema. This action helps to reduce the symptoms and signs of atopic dermatitis without the use of corticosteroids.

Eucrisa Side Effects

The most common side effects of Eucrisa may include pain, stinging, or burning at the application site. These reactions are usually mild and temporary. Other less common side effects can include skin irritation, redness, or itching at the application site. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, hives, severe itching, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, trouble breathing);
• Angioedema (swelling under the skin, potentially affecting the face, lips, or throat)

Eucrisa Precautions

Do not use Eucrisa if you are allergic to crisaborole or any of its ingredients. Before starting this medication, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have severe or worsening skin infections in the area to be treated. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There are generally no significant drug interactions known with topical crisaborole, as systemic absorption is minimal. However, always inform your doctor about all topical products you are using, especially if they are applied to the same area of skin. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Eucrisa. Based on animal studies, there is no evidence of harm to a fetus; however, controlled studies in pregnant women are lacking. It should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefits outweigh the possible risks to the fetus. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed before using Eucrisa. It is unknown if crisaborole passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Your doctor will help you decide whether to continue breastfeeding or discontinue the medication, considering the importance of the drug to the mother. Eucrisa is approved for use in pediatric patients 3 months of age and older for the treatment of mild to moderate atopic dermatitis.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Eucrisa comes as an ointment. Wash and dry the affected area of skin before applying. Apply a thin layer of the ointment to the affected areas, typically twice daily, and wholly and gently rub it in. Do not apply to the eyes, mouth, or genitals. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the treated area unless instructed to do so by your doctor. Continue using the medication for the full prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Store Eucrisa at room temperature (between 20°°C and 25°°C or 68°F and 77°F). Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
