Evorel Conti Information
Evorel Conti is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) transdermal patch used to treat estrogen deficiency symptoms in postmenopausal women (who are at least 6 to 12 months past their last natural period) and to prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis in women at high risk of fractures who are intolerant to other therapies. It works by continuously releasing estradiol, which replaces declining natural estrogen levels to relieve symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats, and norethisterone acetate (a progestogen), which counteracts estrogen's stimulatory effect on the uterine lining to protect against endometrial overgrowth.
Side Effects
Commonly reported side effects include skin irritation, redness, or itching at the application site. You may also experience breast tenderness or pain, headaches, nausea, diarrhea, stomach aches, bloating, weight gain, insomnia, and breakthrough bleeding or spotting, especially during the first few months of starting treatment.
Contact your doctor if you have any of the serious side effects, including:
• Cardiovascular Events: Increased risk of blood clots (venous thromboembolism and pulmonary embolism), stroke, or heart attack.
• Liver Dysfunction: Potential for liver disease or impaired function.
• Malignant Neoplasms: Increased risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer or other estrogen-dependent malignancies.
• Severe Angioedema: Rare but severe swelling of the face, tongue, or throat causing swallowing or breathing difficulties.
• Severe Hypertension: Risk of a significant and dangerous rise in blood pressure.
Seek medical attention immediately if you experience painful swelling or redness in your legs, sudden chest pain, or difficulty breathing (signs of a blood clot or heart attack). You should also seek urgent medical care if you notice yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), a severe new migraine-like headache, or dimpling, nipple changes, or new lumps in your breast. Do not stop using this medication suddenly if you are on a long-term regimen without consulting your doctor, as withdrawal can cause a rapid return of menopausal symptoms.
Precautions
Do not use Evorel Conti if you have a known hypersensitivity to estradiol, norethisterone acetate, or any of the inactive ingredients in the patch matrix and adhesive. Tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
o Active or past blood clots (such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism).
o High blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, epilepsy, or gallbladder disease (gallstones).
o History of, active, or suspected breast cancer or other estrogen-sensitive cancers.
o Recent heart attack, stroke, or severe liver disease.
o Undiagnosed or unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding.
o Untreated endometrial hyperplasia (thickening of the womb lining).
Evorel Conti may interact with certain anticonvulsants for epilepsy, such as carbamazepine, which can induce liver enzymes and decrease the effective hormone levels in your blood. It can also interact with lamotrigine, as the estrogen in the patch may reduce lamotrigine levels, decreasing seizure control. It may also interact with other liver enzyme-inducing medications or herbal treatments, such as St. John’s Wort.
Evorel Conti is strictly contraindicated during pregnancy; if you suspect you are pregnant, remove the patch and contact your doctor immediately. This medication is intended for postmenopausal women only and is not recommended during breastfeeding as hormones pass into breast milk. It is recommended to speak to your doctor immediately if you are planning to get pregnant.
Evorel Conti is not a contraceptive. If it has been less than 12 months since your last period or you are under 50 years old, you may still need to use non-hormonal contraception to prevent pregnancy.
Store Evorel Conti patches at room temperature (below 25°C) in a dry place. Keep the patches sealed inside their protective foil sachets until immediately before application, and protect them from direct sunlight. Apply patches to a clean, dry area of skin below the waist (such as the thigh or buttocks); never apply on or near the breasts. Always fold used patches in half with the sticky sides together, then dispose of them safely, out of reach of children and pets.
