Ferofit Information
Ferofit (Ferrous Fumarate) is used to treat and prevent iron deficiency anemia. This condition occurs when the body doesn't have enough iron to produce sufficient hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen. It is used in individuals with low iron intake, poor iron absorption, increased iron needs (like during pregnancy), or iron loss due to blood loss. Iron supplements like Ferrous Fumarate replenish the body’s iron stores, which are then used to produce hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells.
Ferofit Side Effects
The most common side effects of Ferofit may include appetite loss, constipation, dark-coloured stools, diarrhea, nausea, and stomach cramps. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Black, tarry, or red stools;
• Severe nausea;
• Severe stomach pain;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Vomiting blood
Ferofit Precautions
Do not use Ferofit if you are allergic to Ferrous Fumarate or other ingredients in this medication. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant before using Ferofit. Ferofit should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed and under the guidance of a doctor. Iron requirements increase during pregnancy. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed before using Ferofit. Ferrous Fumarate passes into breast milk but is generally considered safe to use when breastfeeding. Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Ferofit comes as a tablet. Swallow the tablet by mouth. Take it with a glass of water or juice. Please do not take it with milk. Do not crush, chew, or break it. This medicine works best when taken on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before eating and 2 hours after eating. However, if it upsets your stomach, you can take the medicine with food or just after food. Do not take this medicine for longer than your doctor advises, which is often for several months to treat anemia and then for 3-6 months after your condition has improved to build up your body's iron supply. Avoid consuming milk, other dairy products, tea, or coffee at the same time as taking Ferofit or within 2 hours. Store Ferofit at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
