Gelnique Gel Information
Gelnique Gel (Oxybutynin Chloride) is used to treat the symptoms of an overactive bladder. An overactive bladder presents with symptoms such as frequent or urgent urination and incontinence. Gelnique is also used to reduce muscle spasms of the bladder and urinary tract. Antispasmodics like Oxybutynin Chloride work by relaxing the muscles in the bladder to improve your ability to control your urination.
Gelnique Gel Side Effects
The most common side effects of Gelnique Gel may include blurred vision, dry mouth, decreased sweating, drowsiness, dizziness, and swelling at the application site. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Mental or mood changes;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of intestinal blockage, such as persistent vomiting, severe stomach pain, severe constipation;
• Signs of kidney infection, such as burning or painful urination, lower back pain
Gelnique Gel Precautions
Do not use Gelnique Gel if you are allergic to Oxybutynin Chloride or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have glaucoma, intestinal diseases like acid reflux or ulcerative colitis, kidney disease, liver disease, myasthenia gravis, Parkinson’s disease, stomach blockage, urinary problems like urinary retention or enlarged prostate, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Gelnique Gel and other medications, such as alendronate, cannabis, codeine, cetirizine, lorazepam, etc. Do not use Gelnique Gel if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Oxybutynin Chloride will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Gelnique Gel while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Oxybutynin Chloride passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children below 6 years without talking to your doctor.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Gelnique Gel comes in gel form. Oxybutynin gel is for use on the skin only. Avoid getting the gel in the eyes, nose, or mouth. Wash your hands with soap and water after applying this medication. If the gel gets in your eyes, rinse them immediately with warm, clean water. Wash your hands and the skin area you want to apply the gel with mild soap and water. Allow the area to dry completely before applying this medicine. Apply the contents of 1 gel packet to the recommended skin area. Apply the gel to a different area of skin with each dose. This will decrease skin reactions. Do not apply the gel to open sores, areas with a rash, recently shaved, irritated, or oily skin, or where lotions or powders have been applied. Gently rub into your skin until it dries. Do not continue rubbing after the gel has dried. You can apply Gelnique Gel before or after applying sunscreen. After applying the gel, wait 1 hour before exercising, bathing, showering, swimming, or getting the application area wet to ensure all the drug is absorbed. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. Gelnique Gel contains alcohol. Avoid smoking and open flame until the gel has dried. You may feel dizzy or drowsy after applying Gelnique Gel. Do not drive or do any tasks that involve alertness until you know how the medicine affects you. Store Gelnique Gel at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
