Hytone Information
Hytone (Hydrocortisone) is a prescription topical lotion used to treat various skin conditions, including insect bites, dermatitis, skin allergies, rash, and itching of the outer genitals. Hytone lotion is also effective in treating people with minor pain, itching, swelling, and discomfort caused by hemorrhoid problems of the anal area (such as anal fissures, itching). Mild corticosteroids such as Hytone can reduce redness, itching, and swelling in the affected areas. Hytone cream may also be used for conditions not mentioned in this guide.
Hytone Side Effects
The most common side effects of Hytone may include striae, skin atrophy, changes in skin color, redness, or burning sensation at the site of application.
Call your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• Acneform reaction;
• Allergy reactions including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat);
• Itching, scaling, severe redness, soreness, or swelling of the skin;
• Recurrent infections;
• Skin bleaching or changes in skin colour;
• Thinning, weakness, or wasting away of the skin;
• Unintended weight gain;
• Worsening of the skin infection
Hytone Precautions
Before using this product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or have any other allergies. Hytone is a cream that should be applied on the skin only four times daily or as directed by your doctor. Shake the lotion before every use. Clean the affected area with mild soap and water, rinse well, and pat dry before applying Hytone lotion. Avoid the lotion from getting to your eyes. Do not use it on skin areas that have cuts, scrapes, or burns. If it does get on these areas, rinse it immediately with water. Follow your prescription label carefully, and do not use more than your prescribed dosage. Apply a small amount of the lotion to the affected area and rub it gently. Do not cover the area with plastic or waterproof bandages unless directed to do so by your doctor. Use the applicator to apply the cream if you are treating hemorrhoids with Hytone lotion. The lotion should be applied 2 to 4 times daily or after each bowel movement if you are treating hemorrhoids. Do not apply the cream to the anus with your hands.
Inform your doctor if there is no improvement in your condition despite regular use for at least 1-2 weeks. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history; if you have an eye problem, Cushing's syndrome (adrenal gland disorder), diabetes mellitus, hyperglycemia or diabetes ketoacidosis, intracranial hypertension, skin infection near the site of application (rectal sore), liver disease, chronic kidney disease, intestinal problem (obstruction, perforation or ulcers). Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, steroids such as Hydrocortisone lotion should be used only when needed. It should not be used for long periods or in large amounts. Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of using a steroid cream. It is unknown if Hydrocortisone cream passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Hytone and other medications such as metformin, warfarin, furosemide, and digoxin.
