Inhibace Information
Inhibace (Cilazapril) is used alone or with other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also used to treat congestive heart failure in patients who have not responded well to the use of diuretics and digitalis. In hypertension, the walls of the arteries are under constant, excessive pressure, which can damage the heart and kidneys over time. As a result of constant damage to the heart over time, heart failure ensues, and the heart muscle becomes too weak or stiff to pump blood effectively to meet the body’s needs.
Inhibace, containing the active ingredient cilazapril, is a medication belonging to the ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor class. Cilazapril functions as a prodrug, converting into its active form, cilazaprilat, to block the enzyme responsible for producing angiotensin II. Since angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor, blocking its action allows blood vessels to relax and widen. For individuals with hypertension, this vasodilation directly lowers blood pressure; for those with heart failure, it reduces the resistance the heart must pump against and decreases fluid retention. By reducing the workload on the heart and improving blood flow, cilazapril helps prevent further cardiovascular deterioration and reduces the risk of stroke or heart attack.

Inform your doctor that you are taking this medication before you undergo any surgical procedures requiring general anaesthesia, as cilazapril can interact with the medications used during surgery. It is generally advised to discontinue the medication immediately if you get pregnant while using this medication. It is also not recommended to breastfeed while taking this medication, as it can pass through breastmilk and affect the infant. This medication is not recommended for use in children. Therefore, before using this medication, inform your doctor about any other medications you are currently taking, including herbal medicines and supplements, to determine if it is safe to use along with cilazapril. Take this medication as prescribed by your doctor. Your doctor will determine the appropriate brand and dosing schedule based on your condition and drug response. Swallow each tablet whole; do not chew or crush. Take this medication regularly at the same time each day for optimal effectiveness.
