Izba Ophthalmic Drops (Travoprost) is primarily indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). This includes managing open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension in adults, and it is approved for use in pediatric patients aged 3 years and older as well. It is a prostaglandin analog that contains travoprost as its active ingredient, formulated at a concentration of 0.003%. The medication increases the outflow of aqueous humor through the uveoscleral pathway; essentially, it opens a secondary drainage route in the eye to vent excess fluid and lower eye pressure.

In conditions like open-angle glaucoma, the eye's natural drainage system, the trabecular meshwork, becomes inefficient, much like a clogged sink. This leads to a buildup of aqueous humor, the clear fluid that maintains the eye's shape. When this fluid accumulates, the resulting high pressure can compress and eventually damage the optic nerve, potentially leading to irreversible vision loss. Ocular hypertension is a similar state where the pressure is high, but nerve damage hasn't occurred yet. Izba Ophthalmic Drops help by mimicking naturally occurring prostaglandins to relax certain muscles in the eye's drainage structure. By facilitating this uveoscleral outflow, it relieves mechanical stress on the retina and optic nerve, which is likely the most critical step in preventing disease progression.

Izba Ophthalmic Drops Side Effects

Some common side effects of this medication include changes in iris color (the colored part of the eye), eye pain, eye discomfort, dry eye, itchy eyes, eye irritation, red eyes, and increased eyelash growth. If you experience any of these mild side effects and they persist or worsen, promptly inform your doctor.

Stop taking this medicine and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any serious side effects, including the following:
• Allergic reactions such as abdominal pain, vomiting, breathing difficulties, body itching, body rash, skin blistering, swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, lips, or throat;
• Depression with symptoms such as poor concentration, changes in weight, changes in sleep, decreased interest in activities, thoughts of suicide;
• Difficulty breathing or worsening asthma symptoms;
• Heart problems with symptoms such as chest pain, irregular heartbeat;
• Loss of bladder control or painful urination;
• Persistent sensitivity to light;
• Persistent vision changes;
• Rash, swelling, or inflammation of eyelids;
• Ringing in the ears

Izba Ophthalmic Drops Precautions

Do not use this topical medication if you are allergic to travoprost, other ingredients of this eye medicine, or any other medicine. Before using this medication, ensure you inform your doctor about any medical conditions you previously or currently have, including the following:

• Diabetes;
• Eye infections, including viral infections caused by the herpes simplex virus.
• Kidney disease;
• Liver disease;

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using the eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. In animal studies (rats and mice), travoprost was found to be teratogenic and increased post-implantation losses when administered systemically at doses significantly higher than the human ocular dose.
