Kombiglyze XR Information

Kombiglyze XR (Saxagliptin/Metformin XR) lowers blood glucose (sugar) in people with type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes happens when your body can’t use insulin properly. Without treatment, this condition can cause various health problems, like heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. Although there is no cure for type 2 diabetes, you can manage the condition by making lifestyle changes and taking medications. Kombiglyze XR contains two active ingredients. Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors like Saxagliptin work by increasing the amount of insulin released after eating when blood sugar is high. Biguanides like Metformin XR work by reducing the amount of sugar made by the liver, decreasing the amount of glucose the body absorbs from food, and increasing the effect of insulin on the body.

Kombiglyze XR Side Effects

The most common side effects of Kombiglyze XR may include diarrhea, headaches, nausea, and cold symptoms, such as runny nose, sneezing, and sore throat. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Signs of lactic acidosis, such as unusual muscle pain, feeling cold, breathing troubles, irregular heart rate, stomach pain, and dizziness;
• Signs of pancreatitis, such as severe pain in the upper stomach, appetite loss, or fast heartbeat

Kombiglyze XR Precautions

Do not use Kombiglyze XR if you are allergic to Saxagliptin, Metformin XR, or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have severe kidney disease, liver disease, diabetic ketoacidosis, heart disease, pancreatitis, gallstones, high triglycerides in your blood, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Kombiglyze XR and other medications, such as zonisamide, ketoconazole, clarithromycin, topiramate, dolutegravir, corticosteroids, etc. Do not use Kombiglyze XR if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is unknown if this medicine will harm an unborn baby. However, controlling blood sugar during pregnancy is essential to prevent complications for both the mother and the baby. Your doctor may adjust your dose during each trimester of pregnancy. Do not use Kombiglyze XR while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Saxagliptin or Metformin XR passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Your doctor may adjust your dose when breastfeeding. Metformin may stimulate ovulation in a premenopausal woman and may increase the risk of unintended pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about your risk. The safety and effectiveness of Kombiglyze XR cream in children have not been established.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Kombiglyze XR comes as a tablet. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, chew, or break it. Take this drug with food. You may feel very hungry, dizzy, anxious, confused, or shaky after using this drug. These are symptoms of low blood sugar. Eat a fast-acting source of sugar like hard candy, fruit juice, raisins, or non-diet soda to treat hypoglycemia quickly. Your doctor may prescribe a glucagon injection kit if you have severe hypoglycemia. Be sure your family or close friends know how to give you this injection in an emergency. Kombiglyze XR is only a part of a comprehensive treatment program that may include diet, exercise, weight control, and regular blood testing. Kombiglyze XR is only for treating type 2 diabetes. The drug will not treat type 1 diabetes. Inform your doctor if you drink alcohol. Alcohol may increase your risk of lactic acidosis if taken with this drug.
