Lidodan Information

Lidodan (Lidocaine Hydrochloride) is used on the skin to stop itching and pain from certain skin conditions, such as scrapes, minor burns, eczema, and insect bites. The drug is also used to treat discomfort caused by hemorrhoids and in the genital/anal area. Lidodan may also be used to decrease discomfort during certain medical procedures or exams. The viscous form of this drug is used to treat the pain of a sore or irritated mouth and throat, often associated with cancer chemotherapy and certain medical procedures, such as dental procedures. Local anesthetics like Lidocaine work by causing temporary numbness or loss of feeling in the skin and mucous membranes.

Lidodan Side Effects

The most common side effects of Lidodan may include temporary redness or stinging at the application site, drowsiness, and itching. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Ringing in the ears;
• Seizures;
• Shakiness;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat

Lidodan Precautions

Do not use Lidodan if you are allergic to Lidocaine Hydrochloride or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have broken skin at the intended application site, heart disease, liver disease, methemoglobinemia, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Lidodan and other medications, such as other topical medications. Do not use Lidodan if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Lidocaine Hydrochloride will harm an unborn baby. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Lidodan while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. Lidocaine Hydrochloride passes into breast milk in trace amounts but is unlikely to harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children below 16 years without talking to your doctor.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Lidodan comes in ointment, topical solution, and viscous solution forms. If you are using the ointment, apply it directly to the skin. Clean and dry the affected area before applying the medicine. Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected skin area, usually 2 to 3 times a day or as directed. If you are using the viscous solution, shake well before using it. Place the dose in your mouth, swish until the pain disappears, and spit it out. Use a measuring device to carefully measure the correct dose if you use this medication in children under three years old. Because lidocaine viscous decreases the feeling in your mouth and throat, it may affect your ability to swallow. Avoid eating for at least 1 hour after you have used this drug. You should also avoid chewing gum while using this medication. Do not use Lidodan topical on large areas of the body. Avoid covering the treated area with waterproof bandages or plastic or apply heat unless directed to do so by your doctor. These may increase the risk of serious side effects. Wash your hands before and after using Lidodan. Store Lidodan at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
